Space topic 2017

Space topic!

We have had an exciting start to Year 5 with a wonderful topic all about Space!  At the start of the term, we found a mysterious walkie-talkie and were in touch with some people who had crashed in space (but don't worry everything turned out thanks to our timely interventions!).  We have learnt about the first man in space. Here is some information that we summarised about him:

We had an exciting visit from our good friend Mr Edge, whose hobby it is to build telescopes so he can look at the stars and take some amazing pictures.  He made us all say WOW!

We enjoyed looking at pictures that Mr. Edge had taken of the moon and were eager to learn about why it looked different throughout the year.  Here's some explanations of phases of the moon:

We have been learning all about gravity and the work of Isaac Newton.  We measured different items using a force meter and discussed how gravity might be different on different planets.
