Mrs Hynes' Diary

Friday 17th July

Hi Pirates!

I can't believe we've come to the end of Year 1 already. Today we celebrated in school with a pirate party and a treasure hunt which was really good fun. It's been a very strange end to our year in school but I wanted to tell you all how proud I am of you all and I'm going to miss you very much.

Once a Pirate always a Pirate!

You have been the best class EVER! and I hope you all have a brilliant summer holiday.

lots of love

Monday 6th July

Hi Pirates!

I hope you're all well and you had a lovely weekend. We had a brilliant day yesterday as we went to Chester Zoo. We got to see lots of animals such as a baby elephant who was so adorable and had a fluffy fringe. We saw giraffes, rhinos, meerkats, tigers, penguins and lots more. I think our favourites  were the painted dogs as they came really close and were amazing to look at.

Being at the zoo reminded me of one of our favourite books, 'Poo in the Zoo' by Steve Smallman and excitingly there is a new story coming on Thursday called 'Poo in the Zoo: The Great Poo Mystery' which I can't wait to read. I wonder if Hector Gloop is is in? I've added a picture below.

Missing you all!

Thursday 2nd July

Hi Pirates!

How are you all? I’ve had a very busy week so far back at school with some of the children from our class. It was so lovely to see their big smiles when they arrived on Monday. We’ve designed sea creatures ready to describe in literacy, followed instructions to make pizza, planted some seeds, worked on our number bonds and 3D shapes as well as crafting. We haven’t stopped.

I hope you’re all having a great week.

Tuesday 23rd June

Hi Pirates!

I hope you are all well and enjoying the sunshine. I think we're going to have a heatwave this week. I didn't have the best week last week as I had toothache. It was horrible and I couldn't sleep. Luckily my dentist reopened and on Friday I had to have the start of a treatment called root canal. This was not fun but it did remind me how important it is to look after your teeth.

We had a nice weekend and celebrated Fathers Day, did you do something nice for somebody at home to show you care? Milo and Esme had some photos printed and framed as presents this year and I know they were a big hit with Grandad.  They also made their dad breakfast in bed and as a special treat we all tried not to cheer on Everton in the Merseyside derby that was on that day as their dad is a big Liverpool fan.

This week I am busy writing your end of year reports. This is a big job and requires a lot of concentration. I've still not managed to speak to you all but will keep trying.

Enjoy the rest of the week and I look forward to seeing some of you on Monday.

lots of love

Thursday 18th June

Hi Pirates!

I hope everybody is well on this rainy day?

Have you been looking at the daily lessons on BBC Bitesize? Today there were Geography lessons from Sir David Attenborough! How amazing is that! I have attached a link below.

I have to say I'm very happy that football is back and I really enjoyed watching City v Arsenal last night. Normally I would be watching at the ground (with a pie) so it was very strange to watch it on TV without a crowd. Luckily it was a great result for City, winning 3-0.

Missing you all.

Thursday 11th June

Hi Pirates!

I hope you're all well. I've been in school today working with the children of key workers  We've had a busy day learning about the world's oceans, reading and doing our work packs. The weather hasn't been great so we've been inside a fair bit but we were able to make sea creatures using plasticine and they were all amazing!

I'll be ringing you all for a chat again starting tomorrow so let me know what you've been up to.

lots of love

Sunday 7th June

Hi Pirates!

How are you all? I hope you've all enjoyed the last two weeks which would have been our half term holiday. We've had some fantastic weather and lots of opportunities to have a BBQ and sit in the garden. I've been gardening, reading, going for walks and having water fights (I'm not that keen on those and neither is the dog) We've also been having a movie night on Saturdays, I get my fairy lights out and put up a few decorations then we have a quiz to do with our film. Last night was Star Wars which is very popular in our house, I ask the questions and get to use my massive microphone. I have a little prize bucket too, but you have to score a certain number of points to win something. It's really good fun.

Tomorrow (8th June) is World Oceans Day. This is a day where all over the world people celebrate our oceans and think of ways to protect them. I have put some work on the learning page which links with World Oceans Day and below are some links which you could have a look at. There's lots of information, video clips and quizzes there.

I can't tell you how much I am missing you all and hope to see you all again very soon.

lots of love

World Oceans Day

Friday 22nd May

Hi Pirates and Happy Friday!

Today is Esme’s birthday, she’s 9 today. It’s been a different sort of birthday for her, luckily her best friend was able to come for a socially distanced catch up and she’s seen some family members for cake from a distance too. Later on we’re having a living room disco and I’ve put up lots of fairy lights ready.

Normally today would be our last day in school before a two week holiday. After the break we will be back in school in a different way which might seem strange but I promise everybody working with us is lovely ❀️

Monday 18th May

Hi Pirates!

I hope everybody is well and that you all had a nice weekend.

I am writing my diary entry from school today. We are having a lovely day playing outside and doing some stained glass window crafts. I'm working with Mr Roters, what do you think of his window? Shame it's not the city badge. I've also had the chance to catch up with Mrs Henthorn (we have recorded another story) as well as Mrs Longmate and Mrs Sheeran.

Missing you all lots.

Wednesday 13th May

Hi Pirates!

I hope you're all well. I finally finished my online science work ...... TODAY!!! frown

I promised myself when we first were told to stay at home that I would make sure I did all the jobs at home that I never get round to (sorting my wardrobe being at the top of the list) Well, I finally did it! I also asked Milo and Esme to get more involved in cooking and once a week they decide what we are having for tea. They have to make sure we have all the ingredients and with a bit of help they get on with it. Tomorrow is Milo's turn to choose (I'm not sure I've EVER met a fussier eater) He is making burgers and we've had to decide what we want with ours. Somebody in our house is having everything on offer! What would you choose to cook for your family?

Missing you more every day.

lots of love

Monday 11th May

Hi Pirates!

I hope everybody is well and you all had a lovely weekend. As the weather was so lovely we spent a lot of time in the garden. We managed to paint the chairs and do some gardening. I'm very much learning as I go but I am starting to enjoy it more.

We also did a bit of baking too. There's some easy baking recipes on the curriculum pages in the Design and Technology folder that you could try. When I was little my mum used to make us Crispy Mars Bars which my sister, brother and I loved so we made some and they were just as delicious as I remember.

Today I am trying to do some online science work but it's slow progress as each page is taking forever to load. Ahhh well, maybe I could have a Crispy Mars Bar whilst I wait.

Friday 8th May

Hi Pirates and Happy VE Day!

Have you done anything to celebrate? I know some people are having street parties and have decorated their houses. We decided to celebrate with an afternoon tea and made some scones. We made some mini bunting to decorate our cake plates too. What do you think?

Hope you all have a lovely weekend, I’ll be gardening again and repainting some chairs, I’ll let you know how I get on.

Miss you all

lots of love

Monday 4th May

Hello Pirates!

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a lovely weekend. We've been very busy trying to work on our front garden, its definitely been challenging. There's been lots of digging and a bit of grumbling as we realised just how much work we have to do. Hopefully it will be worth it in the end. I've got some plants that need planting too. I'm not really a gardener but Mrs Henthorn has been giving me lots of advice. I had to bring the plants inside at night for a couple of weeks to stop the frost getting to them. They're now living outside and are ready to be planted.

I've got lots of work to do for school this week but I'm determined to take some time and do some reading and go for lots of walks too.

Missing you all.

lots of love

Friday 1st May

Hello Pirates!

I have been into school today and had a very busy day. We made some rocky road from leftover Easter eggs, marshmallows and biscuits (they were pretty delicious) I’ve also been playing badminton and pool. It was really nice to see Mrs Whyment, Mr Roters, Mrs Rice and Mrs Savarazadeh and have a catch up. I also saw Angel at lunchtime which was lovely too.

Next week I’ll be ringing you all again to see how you’re getting on. Tell your grown ups that the number will show up as No Caller ID and that it could be me when they see it. Don’t forget to check the learning page for some tasks.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Monday 27th April

Hi Pirates!

I hope everybody is well and enjoyed a sunny weekend.

I loved speaking to most of you on the phone last week and will try and catch up with those of you I couldn't get hold of this week. It was so lovely hearing all your voices and finding out what you had been doing. I spoke to Melody on her birthday and she told me all about her presents, cake and plans for the day. I hope you had the best time Melody.

I was in school today and we had a fun filled day. We looked at some of the video clips from Chester Zoo live (from Friday) and started some huge animal paintings which are looking pretty good. It was great to see Mrs Henthorn, Mrs Donnelly and Mrs Turner too. Mrs Henthorn and I recorded a story together which we will add to our page. We hope you like it.

Missing you all and can't wait until we're all together again.

Hi Pirates and Happy St. George's Day.

Today has been a very busy work day. I've been working on the Geography page on the school website and have found some games, quizzes and websites you might be interested in.

Yesterday was Earth Day. It is on April 22nd every year and this year marked fifty years of Earth Day. The idea is to help make a better world for everyone. Have a look at the link below to find out more.

Wednesday 22nd April

Hi Pirates!

I hope you're all well. I've been very busy working this week. I'm trying to do lots of geography work and have found some lessons and activities on the BBC bitesize page which I've added to the geography page (why not have a look) I've also been busy helping Milo with his school work. He has lots of projects to do which are keeping us very busy.

This week I am trying to speak to you all on the phone, so far I think I have spoken to half of you and it has been lovely finding out what you have been up to and getting the chance to say hello. I'll do my very best to speak to everybody by the end of the week. and hopefully we'll all be back together very soon.

We've also been baking again.

Sunday 19th April

Hi Pirates!

I hope everybody is well.

Last week I had a week off work so had a little holiday at home. I spent a lot of time gardening, going for walks, doing my daily exercise, baking and having fun with my family. I had a bit more time to make breakfast than usual so made one of our families favourites, breakfast pancakes. They're so delicious and are made from things I usually have in the fridge and cupbaord.

Pancake recipe

150g self raising flour

3 teaspoons of caster sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 egg

lemon juice

frozen blueberries

1. Put some frozen blueberries in a pan on a low heat with a squeeze of lemon

2. Mix the flour and sugar in a bowl

3. Whisk together the egg, milk and vanilla

4. Mix the wet and dry ingredients together

5. Heat a frying pan on a medium heat and add a bit of butter

6. Add tablespoonfulls of mixture into the pan

7. When bubbles start to appear flip over

8. When cooked on each side (2-3 minutes) put on your plate and spoon on some blueberries - delicious!

This week I will be working from home so doing a lot of Geography work as I am in charge of that subject.

Missing you lots.

Hello Pirates!

Today we had an air hockey tournament. Esme sorted out the matches and it was very competitive. Needless to say I didn't win but we all had a brilliant time.

Wednesday 8th April

Hello Pirates!

How are you all? I hope you enjoyed listening to the story yesterday. I think next week I'll read 'The Scarecrow's Wedding' by Julia Donaldson. Have you seen the new Gruffalo picture showing Gruffalo and Mouse staying two metres apart? I've posted it below.

I was in school on Monday with Mrs Henthorn looking after some children. It was lovely to see her and have a catch up. We had a fun day decorating eggs, making pizza, dancing and going for a walk to see the tadpoles but it was very strange being in school without you.

Today I've been busy doing some work for school as well as helping Milo and Esme do their school work. At break time we played dodge ball in the garden (Milo would stay outside all day if I'd let him) We tried to have our lunch in the garden but a wasp wouldn't leave us alone so we came inside where a Labrador (Dave) wouldn't leave us alone either.

Tuesday 31st March

Hello Pirates!

I just wanted to say that I’m really missing you all and miss seeing your lovely big smiles every morning.

This morning I did an exercise dance class which was fun, I found it on YouTube. Dave (the dog) kept getting in the way and I might have accidentally stood on his paw once. I decided to make the banana bread (from the learning page) so that’s my breakfast sorted for tomorrow. It was quite easy so if you’ve got any of the ingredients at home, why not give it a go. I’ve also started reading a new book which I’m excited about. What’s your favourite book? If I get chance next week, I’ll see if I can record a story for you, maybe ‘Poo in the Zoo’ or ‘The Scarecrow’s Wedding’

Charlie, I’ve seen the amazing maths you’ve been doing today. What a superstar!

Hello Pirates,

Happy Sunday! Hope everybody has had a good day. Today we decided to see what we could make for tea using what was left in the fridge before going shopping. We had some pasta sauce left over from last night, half a pepper, some tomatoes and other bits of veg, plus some wraps in the cupboard. We decided to make home made pizza wraps and they were actually really nice. What did you have for tea? What's your favourite thing to eat? I love a curry or a kit kat.

Missing you all.

Hello Pirates!

I hope everybody is well and you have all been enjoying the sunshine. It's been a very strange week and I've missed seeing all your lovely smiling faces every day. I know Mrs Shepperd and Mrs Joy are missing you too.

I've been busy being a teacher at home. Esme has been brilliant at getting on with her school work every day, Milo is not as keen and wants to do PE all day and play football in the garden. I have been taking my dog Dave for a walk as my daily exercise as well as doing PE with Joe Wicks in the morning. We've been baking lots too and I've loved having the chance to do lots of reading.

I wonder what you have been up to? I know it was Charlie's birthday on Wednesday and it looked like he had a brilliant day. I've seen Sophie has been busy doing Maths and George has baked a delicious looking cake.

Keep safe and I will write again soon.

lots of love
