Literacy

In the last few weeks we have been designing a circus character.  We are going to be working towards children creating their own newspaper report about this character, including planning, writing and editing.  This is likely to continue into next week.  Here's some things to think about:

1)  What has happened to the character that results in him/her being in a newspaper?  Maybe it's the first time they have been somewhere, maybe they have broke a world record etc.

2) Use the planning grid in this weeks paper pack to help structure your writing.

3)  Can you include fronted adverbial phrases and embedded relative clauses in your writing?

Literacy:

This week we are starting a topic which revolves around the circus.

  • See if you can find out about any magic tricks - some that are being performed and some that you could learn.  Type into google - magic tricks for kids etc.  See what you can learn using things you have to hand at home.
  • Research different circus acts.  Begin to think of words to describe them.  We are looking for the best words possible so see if you can find some synonyms.  There are pictures in the pack that you should have received from school.
  • Imagine you are in the circus.  Design your own circus outfit and act coming up with words to describe it.  Also, begin to think of biographical information about your act.  How did they learn their skill?  How did they become famous?  Where did they grow up?  Did they come from a circus family?  etc.
