Geography is often referred to as the ‘umbrella’ subject because of its ability to make links with many other subjects. At Pinfold we aim to introduce geography in a way which allows our children to develop transferable skills, together with a thorough understanding of the subject. Geography provides an excellent opportunity for our pupils to develop skills such as research, observation, measurement, recording and presentation. Our topic based approach to learning also helps to promote a better understanding of the world, by allowing our children to develop qualities such as cooperation, compassion and empathy in relation to their surroundings. By the end of Key Stage 2 we aim to provide our pupils with a good understanding of the world and their place in it. We also empower them with the knowledge that their actions can make positive changes to their environments and surroundings.
