At Pinfold we believe that all children have the right to an excellent and rigorous art education. We have high expectations for what we want children to achieve in art and design and want children to build on their understanding and skills year by year. Our aim is to engage, enrich and stimulate children’s creativity and imagination. We work hard to create confident, independent artists who can articulate their own creative journeys. We encourage experimentation, risk and innovation and we aim to be less focussed on the outcome and more focussed on the creative journey.
Our art curriculum incorporates the statutory KS1 and KS2 requirements of the National Curriculum 2014 and follows the guidance outlined in ‘Development Matters’ for the Early Years Foundation Stage. The school subscribes to ‘Access Art’, a charity which works to inspire and enable high quality visual arts teaching, learning and practice. We have also purchased some ‘PlanBee’ Art and Design units of work to enhance our curriculum, to ensure a good coverage of skills are being taught and to try wherever possible to teach art and design lessons that fit in with topics being taught in other areas of the curriculum.
