At Pinfold Primary School we use 'Read, Write, Inc' to teach the children how to read and write. We start by learning sounds for individual single letters, followed by sounds made by more than one letter , the 'Special Friends' and how to write all the sounds.
We then move on to reading words by sounding and blending the sounds together in each word.
Sometimes, when we have longer words, we 'chunk them' (split the words into syllables) into smaller parts, sound and blend the sounds together in each 'chunk' and then blend (join) the 'chunks' together.
Phonics are also used for writing. We write words by segmenting thenm into sounds iand writing the sounds we hear, including the 'special friends' sounds. down.
